Congratulations to Nancy of Middlebury for winning the 2011 Ice Out. The LDFLA raised $1,477.00. 50% will go to Nancy and the remainder will help fund our milfoil program. Thank to all who participated!

Official Ice Out time: APRIL 11, 2011 at 10:03 am

Nancy's guess: APRIL 11, 2011 at 10:16 am

The Dunmore Dip is modeled around Joe’s Pond’s Ice Out which has been going on since the mid 1980’s. The Ice Out started out as a friendly game where locals bet on when the ice would go out in the spring. It has evolved into a real contest played by people all over the U.S. and even some from overseas.

Go to Joe's Pond web site for the interesting history of their Ice Out.

While the Joe's Pond Ice Out was and is purely for fun, our Dunmore Dip has a mission behind the fun. It will help us win the battle against milfoil in our lakes. Increased budget challenges are forcing us to explore additional means of financing our Milfoil Program to maintain its effectiveness. Half of the ticket monies will be paid to the winner. The other half will go toward our Milfoil Program.

The objective of the game is to guess the date and time Lord Dunmore sees the red flag go over and stops the clock in the spring. Lord Dunmore will be on Brush’s point visible from Rt. 53, just south of Camp Keewaydin. He will be holding his clock, watching for the ice to go out. In spring 2011 his clock stopped at 10:03 AM on April 11.

When the clock stops, that is "official" Dunmore Dip time. Whoever has the closest entry to the date and time the clock stops wins the contest.

You can guess as many times as you like. $1 per guess. We included a form with our fall newsletter to allow you to make up to 30 guesses without having to fill out your contact information multiple times. That same form is available to download below where it says “ice out ticket forms”.

Enter as a team and get 30 guesses for $25 or 60 guesses for $50 and split the winnings amongst your teammates. Click below for additional forms.

Stocking Stuffer special…Purchase 25 guesses for $20 before December 24, and you can let your lucky recipient choose the dates and times they want until March 15.

Send your check and the names of recipients to LDFLA, PO Box 14 Salisbury, Vt. 05769. Be sure to fill out the forms carefully with your name and address so we will be able to contact you if you are a winner.
