Descriptions of the LDFLA Committees 2026
Executive Board:
The Executive Committee oversees the organization’s operations between board meetings. Responsibilities include implementing board decisions, coordinating committees, addressing urgent issues, and guiding the association’s strategic priorities and community initiatives.
Investment Advisory:
The IAC Committee’s purpose is to protect and grow the endowment fund and reserve fund of the LDFLA. These funds provide the Association with greater financial stability and augment operational and capital funds of the Association. The IAC meeting is set for the third Wednesday after every financial quarter ends. We discuss the previous quarterly performance and future market trends, as best we can see them, and if any changes are needed to our investment strategy or holdings.
Water Quality:
The Water Quality Committee seeks to understand the watersheds draining into our lakes, to identify sources of pollution (mainly phosphorus), and to take action to reduce this pollution. The understanding comes from publicly funded water sampling data spanning many decades along with ongoing research funded by LDFLA. The action takes the form of implementing projects prioritized in our Watershed Action Plan and promoting LakeWise participation and shoreline best management practices. The Committee also works to inform our members by summarizing our understanding and providing status updates on actions taken.
Water Safety:
The Water Safety Committee prepares and delivers water safety publications, training programs, and public awareness programs relating to water safety for all seasons and for all users. The committee is responsible for the numbered buoys marking 200 feet from shore to mark the no wake zone and 5 mph speed limit. As of the fall of 2025, the placement and removable of the buoys is handled by our milfoil crew.
AIS:
The AIS Committee is proactive in its efforts to control the infestation and spread of milfoil and other aquatic invasive species. The Committee manages the milfoil crew’s efforts on both lakes. The Committee also arranges for Greeters to survey the number of boats, trailers, and other watercraft that enter Lake Dunmore at the boat launch, and to distribute educational materials about AIS and how to reduce or prevent their spread. The Committee also applies for grants from the state and Lake Champlain Basin Program.
Social:
The Social Committee’s primary responsibility is to organize the annual picnic and social. Much time is spent on soliciting silent and live auction items from surrounding businesses and the community that would interest LDFLA members. The items range from jewelry and local artwork to sailboats. Also, the committee obtains crafts ,games ,food ,music and fun events that promote the outstanding camaraderie that exists on both lakes
Membership:
The Membership Committee supports the important work of keeping the lakes vibrant and healthy through membership dues. We respond to inquiries related to membership, provide Welcome Packets to new members, greet members at the Annual Meeting and Annual Picnic along with distributing dock tags. Membership prepares and sends dues solicitation and communications, monitors dues payments, updates membership information and manages the membership database.
Communications:
The Communications Committee sends year-round emails to members and lakes residents with topical information and updates from the Executive Board and Committee Chairs. We provide the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer Newsletters. We prepare, publish and distribute the LDFLA Directory every two years. We maintain our website and update Facebook and Instagram.
Insect Control:
The Insect Control Committee works with the Otter Creek Watershed Insect Control District (OCW) to control nuisance mosquito and biting fly populations in the OCW’s six member towns. Mosquitoes are monitored by collecting samples from mosquito prone areas and then counted in a laboratory to ensure populations meet the threshold for applying insecticide and larvicide. Trucks with specialized spray tanks will then precisely apply insecticide using computer software that monitors applications.
Nominating:
The Nominating Committee recommends Association members to fill vacancies on the Board of Trustees. To the extent possible, prospective Trustees are drawn from members of the various LDFLA committees. Once approved by the Board, the slate of Trustee candidates are submitted for election at the Association’s Annual Meeting.
